MAINTAINING PROFICIENT

I got a bit too focused on improving on the learning outcomes that I still needed proficient. This led me to not adding as much or not changing the content as much as it should. I got feedback from Josh that proficient is something you maintain and don't keep. So before the fourth and final assessment I made sure to add new work or change pieces of documentation that were written in the past tense.

At this time, I only need to go from beginning to proficient on LO2, and I need to make my comments a bit more "helpful." Since I got the feedback on maintaining proficiency, I wanted to apply all of the feedback that I got on each learning outcome. This is an action chosen in line with promoting my personal growth, as the goal is to become a professional. This whole process develops my learning attitude as a student who does his best to keep improving and doesn't settle down once reaching proficiency.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP

I am very aware of my own strenghts and weaknesses and over the past few semesters I feel like I have been improving my personal leadership a lot. In the following document I will explain my Personal Leadership whikle reflecting on these past few weeks.

Strengths and Weaknesses

I feel like I have a good understanding of what I am good at and what I am not. My strengths are also the things that I enjoy the most. I enjoy web design a lot, which is why I feel like my strengths lie there. I also like web development for the most part and feel like I am good enough in that field as well.

Weaknesses I have been working on:

  • My biggest weakness is procrastination. I start my work too late, which results in a worse outcome due to the time crunch. I have been working on this weakness by actually starting work as soon as possible, getting my laptop, plugging everything in, and diving in.
  • Another weakness of mine is that I am not the best web developer. I struggle mostly with JavaScript, and I have to google almost everything related to it. I also struggle with the responsiveness of my web designs. To work on this, I made my portfolio website responsive, tried new methods, and asked for help from peers. I've also accepted that it's okay to Google a lot.

Exploring the Media Field and Future Job Vacancies

For me, it is very important to explore the media field, especially since I need to do my internship next semester. Previously, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after this study, as ICT can be very broad. However, I have applied to a company that helps clients create or improve their brand identity. The company creates websites for clients but is also able to create media products such as logos and other designs.

I am very enthusiastic about starting at this company in February and feel inspired by the work they have done in the 15 years that the company has been running.

I have been actively working on my goals. I try my best to procrastinate as less as possible, be active about my future and work towards my internship.

  • a. Aligns with my values because – Later on in my career, time management will be very important, and I have noticed from previous experience that starting too late on my work will result in a worse end-product.
  • b. I really feel like I have changed this weakness and I don’t really struggle as much with this than I did before.

FULLY UNDERSTAND THE DOUBLE DIAMOND

  • a. Aligns with my values because – During my internship, I couldn’t help but notice a piece of paper with the Double Diamond on it. When I told my interviewee that we use this method in school, she told me that they use this as well for their projects. Since I want to be able to keep up with them during the internship, I want to fully understand the Double Diamond.

START LEARNING ABOUT WORDPRESS AND IMPROVE JS

  • a. Aligns with my values because – During my internship, I will use WordPress and Elementor to make my websites. Within WordPress, HTML, CSS, and PHP will be used.

  • a. Action plan – After doing research, I found a method that helped me with starting. I count down from 3 to 1, and at 1, I stop what I am doing, grab my laptop, plug everything in, and start working. I also use this method for external tasks, such as emailing my internship for the first time, creating a motivation letter, getting feedback, etc.

  • a. Action plan – I will do research about the Double Diamond method. When working on the group project, I will keep my mind connected to the DD method, document my progress, and keep this up to date.

  • a. Action plan – In my spare time, I will explore WordPress, watch tutorial videos about it, see how it works, and test it out.

CAREER DAY

I took the most care into getting to know more about Advanced Media Design. I got my picture taken which will look nice on LinkedIn. Visited all of the minor, profile and specialization stands. It went really well, I gained a lot of insights of things that were still vague for me. I got a bit of insights for specializations and minors and have a better understanding of these next few semesters.

Going to the career day has helped me with my personal growth within the ICT field. I now have a better understanding of my path within this study and also for later job vacancies and opportunities.

Learning Plan for Internship and Personal Growth

Why?

My internship gets clients that either want help creating a new website, web shop, logo, flyer, menu card, or other media products. Almost every time a website is the main thing that's asked for. They build their websites within WordPress. PHP is mostly used in WordPress but it also uses MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. As mentioned before, my strengths are in HTML and CSS. A weakness of mine is JavaScript. I have very little knowledge of PHP, WordPress, and MySQL, so it is important for me to face this challenge and improve my knowledge on these technologies.

What I Did:

WordPress: There is an Elementor academy (elementor.com) on Google, which I will be using. It is filled with a bunch of free courses on WordPress Elementor, where you build something like a landing page together with a teacher. I will also look around for other sites, such as WPBeginner, and I will be sure to use YouTube.

I have watched a few videos on the site. I am currently mostly busy with finishing my portfolio and getting my laptop fixed before the internship. Meanwhile, in these 3 weeks, I will focus on increasing my knowledge.

I want to be able to keep up with the team during my internship. Since I have little knowledge of WordPress, I find it important to try and learn this as early as possible. I am taking action towards my future goal and learning the things that will help me next semester.
